How often should commercial gym flooring be cleaned?
For high-traffic areas, daily cleaning is the practical standard. Chalk dust, sweat, and general debris accumulate fast in an active training environment, and letting it sit works its way into the rubber surface over time. A damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner handles routine sanitation without degrading the rubber compound.
Weekly deep cleaning with a scrubbing machine makes sense for larger commercial facilities where mopping alone cannot reach the buildup that accumulates in seams, around equipment bases, and in high-footfall zones. This keeps the surface hygienic and extends the life of the flooring by preventing the gradual surface breakdown that neglected buildup causes.
A few things to avoid regardless of cleaning frequency: bleach, ammonia-based products, and oil-based cleaners all degrade rubber over time. Stick to products specifically formulated for rubber gym surfaces and the flooring will hold up considerably longer between replacements.
